  • Shibari Lounge is a private studio based in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, UK. The full address is shared after booking to help maintain privacy and a calm environment for guests.

We’re within walking distance of the station and Leigh Broadway, with easy connections via train and flights from London Southend Airport. Full arrival details are included in your booking confirmation.

  • Shibari Lounge is primarily a rope-focused learning and creative space. Some events explore the sensual or erotic aspects of rope, while others are purely educational, social, or creative.

We also host and hire the studio for a wide range of non-kink activities, including photography, life drawing, movement practices, and workshops. Each event listing clearly outlines the tone and focus so you know what to expect.

Rope can be expressive, intimate, or purely technical. The space is designed to support these different approaches respectfully.

  • Yes — many people attend solo. You’re welcome to come to observe, tie, be tied, or simply spend time in the space. There’s no expectation to arrive with someone, and partner-matching often happens naturally through conversation. You’re free to engage at your own pace.

  • Not at all. You’re welcome to watch, chat, sketch, or simply soak up the atmosphere. Participation is always optional, and there’s no pressure to take part in rope.

  • Yes. Many events and rope jams are designed to be accessible to beginners. If a workshop has prerequisites, these will always be clearly listed in the event description so you can choose what feels right for your level.

  • There’s no strict dress code, but comfortable clothing you can move in works best. Gym wear, bodysuits, lingerie, shorts, soft layers, or pyjamas are all common choices. Essentially, whatever makes you feel confident and allows you to tie or be tied.
We suggest avoiding bulky clothing like jeans, and full nudity isn’t permitted.

  • No. Communal rope is available for beginners to borrow, with a variety of materials to try and see what aligns with your personal journey. As your confidence grows, you may choose to bring your own rope, but it’s not required to attend.
Please note: communal rope isn’t suitable for semi or full suspensions.
